Starving Students Back in 1973, in Hollywood California, Darryl Marshak and Ethan Margalith, 2 teenagers fresh out of high school, "best friends" and roommates needed work for the summer before starting college in the Fall. They were ready to do whatever people needed to be done; painting houses, running errands, gardening, etc. After Darryl was offered $20 to streak nude' - a short-lived craze of the early 70's - Ethan settled on moving.

So they bought what they could afford - an old 1944 Dodge Truck. While one was painting on the side of the truck "Students - Mover for Hire", the other said as a lark, with a truck like that we should say we are "Starving".

I found these guys because they were on a list of approved companies by my new company. They did a fine job. I would use them again. Moving is always difficult, if you can find good movers that is half the battle. Schiller and Rick were the movers, you cannot go wrong with these guys.

Damaged my house and will not fix damages. Consulting an attorney and you better believe they will be paying for the damages and my attorney fees. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!

This is the worst company. One of their moving trucks hit my parked car in a highly illegal hit and run. There was an eyewitness who saw the whole thing. I filed a police report. Now they are ostensibly trying to collect damages for an accident that was 10000000% their fault. Greedy scoundrels and criminals. Do not support this business, literally patronize any other business. Criminal idiots.

They were 3 hours late showed up at 4 when they knew my storage closed at 5. They told me they could store my things over night in their lot, then the day after I rides lots of clothing and jewelry gone. I know they're a good company for giving ex cons a new start but come on now. These guys were at least 45-50years old not students.

Can't believe I'm having to update this. I just received an email 14 MONTHS LATER asking me to remove my Yelp and BBB complaints! They said it's because they refunded me in January of 2021 (I didn't receive a refund until I had to file a charge dispute with my bank.) I am beside myself. Appalling business practice.

The worst experience ever! The movers refused to move certain items and left 70% of our belongings in the old apartment. then charged us the full $600 fee and left. We had to rent a U-HAUL truck and move the bulk of our possessions ourselves. They committed breach of contract, negligence, conversion, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and fraud. They should not be in business.

Seeing as this company fronts as a legitimate business in order to get their employees to verbally agree to work long and laborious hours, only to ghost then like true criminals and leave them financially stranded, I would highly suggest not trusting these people with your credit card nformerion or belongings

DO NOT USE YOU WILL BE SORRY! They are not what it used to be! Sadly, I used them to move us for the third time because I never had a problem with them! However, this time it was the worst experience! The fellows whom moved us hardly spoke any English; did not matter if our boxes were labeled- they did not put the boxes where needed; left equipment outside instead of putting in the garage and it rained.

Our home is brand new, and they managed to scrape our wall when putting in the master; furniture scratched; bed broken; bikes scratched. Furniture not broken down and wrapped, therefore, they tried to bring it out, which it did not fit ruing the door jam from our other house! A table that I've had for 12 yrs belonging to my Dad never scratched in mint condition, which I got when he died. RUINED!

It breaks my heart! I called and spoke to Gio R., whom stated he would speak to the supervisor, however, five days later, still no word from Gio R. or a supervisor! $2000 mistake! If there were zero stars.thats what they would receive!

The people that they sent to do the move are friendly however, be VERY AWARE that you should not sign off on the job and the sentence they have you sign i"No damage done" until you have unpacked EVERYTHING. Many of my fragile items and kitchenware were broken into pieces and cost quite a bit. DO NOT SIGN OFF

Do not be fooled by this listing they are bad company to use run run run find another company Honest review coming soon with photos of all the damages to my stuff and the house we moved from. Don't get stuck with fraudulent charges and bill at the end of your move trust me. They create new listings to hide their bad reviews they get. Movers aren't students and they work high on pot, and I don't need to be a doctor to know what weed smells like! Would you allow a person who is high carry your new born baby or carry expensive furniture up and down stairs?

Didn't know Starving Students contracts their work out. Finally found out after the fact. Their contractor promised to show up at the Pods Storage in Chandler, AZ at around 10am but didn't. Starving students kept telling me he'll be there in 20 min, then 15 min (30 min later) finally showed up around 11:30. No lift on the truck, no dolly just 5-6 kids. Needed a second truck so delivery was next day, which was okay and I agreed to it.

Next day early around 9am they drove up, still no lift and still no dolly, loaned them mine this time. Refrigerator is still in the garage, front door not big enuf and they didn't want to take the chance of taking it thru gravel to the back door which was okay. One good part was when we unpacked everything was good, no broken items! Would I use them again? NO! But I am smarter for next time if there is one!

This company shouldn't be rated. Management and staff poorly organized and have terrible work ethic. A job quoted to take 3 hours ended up taking 7.5 hours. Walls were marked up, wood floors had cracks on stairs from dropping furniture and items such as refrigerator shelves were not received at the new location. To top it off workers stand in front of you expecting to be tipped for poor service. I would never recommend this company and highly suggest anyone even considering to rethink their quote. NOT worth the time and trouble.

I've used Starving Students which is not what it used to be. I ended up paying $1000 for a 1 bedroom move within 30 miles. Quoted at $460. Not the same business as it once was. READ THE FINE PRINT. If they break things, they give you 60 cents based on WEIGHT. So a lightweight item that costs a lot is a loss for you. UPDATE: someone came to assess damages and gave me between 2 days to a week to get someone to fix the damages or reimburse me. It's now been 11 days and no follow-up.

It started off well: 1. Quick response for quote 2. Follow-up before move 3. Showed up early/on-time It is hard work being a mover & I tipped both movers generously according to their efforts. The business practice could change. And then: 1. Both moving men started polite and worked hard. 2. Younger gentleman started flirting w/ me. Would take breaks almost every time they went to the truck to get more stuff. 3. BROKE 4 items and ripped back parts of my couch ($1200) bc they didn't know how to take it apart until I looked it up & did it for them.

They tried the elevator and then dragging it up the stairs and had to take the protective plastic off and finish moving it. 4. Broke a jewelry armoire & spent 30-40 mins "fixing" it before they told me which is time I pay for. 5. I called back and emailed so they can reimburse me for the broken items and after 2 days waiting on response.

Starving Students "lost" all of my belongings for months. When they finally "found" them, they delivered everything smashed to bits. It basically looked like they'd thrown everything on an active train track and waited a few days to see just how bad things could get. After they dumped this huge pile of garbage in my living room the guy wanted to know how big of a tip I planned to give him. I sued them and recovered the cost of the move but not the cost of replacing everything they destroyed. Do not even consider these idiots.

So so shady our guys told us they would work off the clock after a certain time period to help us and on a second run oh no they didn't so we moved from Costa Mesa to Huntington Beach 20 mins from each other they charged us 2,400 dollars later! Plus I need to get someone and pay them to fix the nicks in my old residence and my new one. I am so angry hurt & tired can't sleep I have never ever ever experienced this in all my moves in my lifetime.

They are the worst ever please do not support this company they will take you for a ride. So deceiving the worst ever! BE WARNED! I would have given it a Zero but no option for that a scam operation.

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. NO SHOW NO CALL day of move. 4 hours late, no returned phone calls or emails. Business owner refuses to admit fault or make any effort to resolve. Total rip off, book elsewhere save yourself the aggravation.

Scheduled a short-haul move of a bed and (4) boxed containers. The moving distance involved less than 7 miles within San Bernardino county. After l scheduled the move with the sales agent, l did an online background search of Starving Students, and learned they're no longer a moving company in of itself, but serves only as a form of a broker for other local movers.

In fact Starving Students is now only a DBA for a company named, All Star Logistics LLC apparently based in Georgia. My deposit invoice copy reflected a Starving Students business address of 11420 Santa Monica Blvd., LA 90025. That address is actually for a post office. After receiving my deposit receipt email, for about (5) days following, l still did not receive any move confirmation notice.

I had to do a callback to finally receive my reservation confirmation letter, and also obtain the name of the actual moving company who was going to do my job. Per the reservation, prior to the move date, l was also suppose to receive a call from the movers. No call was ever received. On the date of the move, l had to make a number of calls to learn why the movers were running late, and also learned that the original moving company assigned to do my move had changed.

My frustration with this firm's service was developing quickly. Once the movers arrived, they worked quickly and transported my items to the move destination without undue delay. During move-in, the movers had to place the bed on the second-floor. They moved quickly, but hit the walls and an overhead lamp with bed items in the move-in process.

Upon completion, when paying the balance due, l was surprised that invoice reflected additional charges for the plastic mover-covering placed on my bed (that l did not ask for), tax fees and an additional charge for paying with a credit card. No mention of these additional charges were described by the movers, the original sales agent, or on the deposit receipt nor on the job confirmation letter. Further, the movers arrived with a crew of 3, l was advised by lead mover that my move only required (2) persons, had he utilized the third man (sitting in the moving truck), my balance would have been even more. Years ago, when Starving Students was an actual moving company, l had satisfactory service at a fair and agreed price. BUT, NOW, after this latest experience, this current version of "Starving Students", with all the frustration and unexplained additional fees, in the future when l require additional moving services, l'll utilize another moving company.

The movers were supposed to be at my location at 8 to 12. They called the night before, told me they would be over at 8:30, they called the day of the move and said it would be there around 9:40, then another call, said closer to 11:00! When we got to the new place, they young kid just brought everything in and set it everywhere, not even reading what the boxes had on them. They were in a hurry, sloppy, broke my mirror and left finger print stains on my new couch! Do not use them!

I want to give A MINUS 5 to starving students. First off, I am pretty sure they stole my credit card number (unconfirmed just a feeling), we will come back to that. Even without that, I would not give Starving students a recommendation or good rating. We tried to cancel our scheduled service more than week before our move because we had a change of plans.

That part was on us, but to try to save the company from having guys come out that weren't needed, we contacted them several times through phone, chat, and email and never heard back. We felt that over a week (actually 10 days) of lead time for the cancellation at the end of the month would give them plenty of time to rebook without losses. Overall the staff is sporadically responsive on chat when it comes to cancellation and has no concept of time as the two times I did hear back from someone I got a "someone will be in touch with you shortly" response and then no contact.

I tried to call and they immediately routed me to a voice mail of someone who never called me back (and maybe quit?). The day of our proposed move we got a call from a 3rd party moving company who we had to tell we canceled with starving students way in advance. They were of course disappointed to have lost a big moving day on the calender (last day of the month).

Anyway back to the credit card. We were willing to eat the down payment on the reservation knowing we canceled without a well defined contract but they were so awful with their customer service that I currently have a disputed charge on my credit card from the down-payment. Also we couldn't make our payment using an online system, we had to give them our number over the phone or email (SKETCHY).

In the current world with square, PayPal, and venmo, it's hard to believe someone legitimate wouldn't have a booking system set up online. Anyway the reason I think they stole my card number is that the day of our proposed starving students move I got a notice from my credit card company that my card had been used suspiciously in a FedEx in studio city.

Guess who is located in LA? Starving students movers. After having such a bad time with starving students, we were worried about hiring another company for our actual move date, but we really needed some help. When we spoke to the guys who did come to help us (who were amazing, I'll review them elsewhere) about starving students it turns out that word on the street is that S. S. is going under, trying to do only cash reservations so you can't recover your money, and half the time never even book the 3rd party mover for you. Don't use these guys you'll just regret it.

Again, zero stars if I could. The BBB has attempted to reach Starving Students twice, with no response. RUN, do not walk, away from this company.

The two you guys that helped move me to Jurupa Valley were prompt. The day became long and even bought them lunch. After getting settled, I unwrapped my 65 inch flat screen tv and noticed a puncture to the screen. Needless to say, the she screen is severely damaged. I quickly sent an email to Jack T. In his reply the following morning, he had determined that it was my fault somehow. Accidents happen, we all know that. But, not being able to get any kind of help with my broken tv after paying over $1400 cash really sucks. The administrative side of Best 4 U moving really sucks! Will NOT RECOMMEND TO ANYONE BECAUSE OF THE UNWILLINGNESS TO HELP BY THEIR MANAGEMENT.

The last time I used Starving Students they sent me some rejects from AA. They were slow, unorganized and bumped and damaged my property. I actually terminated the contract prior to completion. I started the move in Pasadena and it took them more than an hour and a half to get to PCH- Crenshaw on Saturday. They were absolutely HORRIBLE. I then went to UHAUL got truck, 2 helpers who completed the move smoothly and efficiently.

I used STARVING STUDENTS because I had used them on a prior occasion and they were young, professionals the ones I got while in Pasadena were far from being students, more like students in recovery and not youngI received compensation for my damages and I will never use or recommend them.

This is a scam. These are no poor little college kids just trying to make some extra money to pay their rent. The founders maybe were but not the movers they send. The guys that helped me spent more time smoking cigarettes and playing on their phones than doing actual work! They were not gentle or careful with my belongings. I was quoted approximately $300 but ended up paying $600. They charge time and a half for driving and fuel on top of that. I can't scream this enough, THIS IS A SCAM! AVOID THIS BUSINESS AT ALL COSTS!
