DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! Our units never shipped and the company waited until A WEEK AFTER OUR SHIPMENT DATE to tell us - meanwhile, we had been trying to contact them to get an update and we unable to reach a representative. On top of this, the company would not deliver our units to our home - which requires us to rent a vehicle to move our things from the closest storage facility to our new home. Overpriced for the horrible service they provide.

By far the worst LONG DISTANCE MOVERS ever. It's been over 2 weeks that my items were to be delivered and yet I'm still waiting on them. The worst part is that, no one from SMARTBOX has called me. Not one person from that company. They might be good for local services, but in no way are they good for long distance. I can see that respond back to your good text messages, then nothing if they messed.

Check out the reviews on GOOGLE, and you'll see. They also tried to blame everyone else, but themselves, and that a show also. People, take this review for what it is, and definitely DO NOT BOOK LONG DISTANCE WITH THEM.

We actually booked a trailer move for next month but after reading all the horrible reviews we called and cancelled to be safe. On the customer service side however, we had an amazing experience. Paula, Latoya & Miranda were wonderful to speak to, they were extremely helpful and honest with us. It almost made us want to give them a shot.

My delivery if two boxes was delayed by a day which set back my project. The delivery driver, Gil, was a true professional, the delay was not his fault, and he put the boxes exactly where I wanted them. They need two or three more just like him.

Where do i begin? We ordered 8 they gave us 4 and told us on the day before of our move. When they came they told us we had 4 hours to fill them for pickup otherwise they wouldnt be able to pick up their boxes in time for our close date where we had to vacate. They dropped a box on the street. Later when we asked for delivery from their elizabeth storage facility they informed us one of our boxes broke and they had to transfer the contents to a new box.

No big deal. But we later found out 2 of our 4 boxes had their padlocks broken off and to this day my kid's bunkbed side piece is missing where we now have to replace their bed. Their delivery and dropoff staff were nice and personable. The service itself sucks. We secured 4 boxes at the last minute from uhaul. Much more expensive but didnt have to deal with this lowgrade nonsense.

Worst company ever. The pod got delayed 3 times and I wasn't told until the very last minute (they said the driver didn't show up like the other reviews). I had to change my whole schedule and paid extra parking fee due to their late pick up. Plus, they never answer the phone and the driver forgot to place my lock so I had to buy my own. I was so frustrated for weeks because of their delays and poor customer service. Please, everyone, DON'T USE THIS SERVICE!

Do not use this storage provider. Smartbox in Upper Marlboro, Maryland (Washington DC) is unreachable---they have my personal property but they have been unavailable for more than 10 straight days at any phone number or chat box or email. They have no problem collecting their direct auto-payment every month like clockwork though: they do that well.

Smartbox ILLEGALLY REQUIRES military members to sign away their rights to protection in the case of an extended deployment, or, if Smartbox simply decides they don't want to store your goods any longer. the general manager, chantel informed me that smartbox doesn't want to have to pay the legal fees to sell my goods if i'm killed or die while deployed. dead serious, that's her concern. hands down the most appalling experience i've had by any company in a country that typically seeks to protect and support service members. shockingly, smartbox is actively seeking to remove protections and support from service members. on a personal note, MD smartbox had a "truck breakdown" but promised me I'd have first delivery the following morning. when I refused to sign the SCRA waiver, I was informed that their delivery truck would not actually be working the following day and that they were cancelling my contract with an immediate refund. I have yet to see the refund despite multiple emails.

Before today i only had good things to say about smart box but the customer service and lack of motivation to correct issues has changed my mind. I had scheduled over a week ago to have my belongs droppedoff on 1 July but the morning of received a call saying their 1 and ONLY forklift was down. Then 30 minutes later was told they were up and running again and i would get my belongings.

I had already scheduled for movers to come and move my things for me. Well, now after waiting all day, it's 4pm they call saying they are still broken and will not be able to deliver today, or over the weekend because it's a holiday weekend. So i am not going to have any of my belongings for who knows how long. I called corporate and they do not seem to care. How does a company like this have only 1 forklift per location? They can't borrow or rent one to stay on task? This is completely unacceptable

Overall a great experience. I needed two boxes on site to move out a room while we repaired water damage. The price was right, and the boxes are very nice and exactly as you'd hope, arriving when they said they would. Also, before delivery I realized I had scheduled for drop off on Oct 31, Halloween, blocking my entire driveway. It's my girlfriend's favorite holiday and so I contacted Chantell with Smartbox of Maryland and she actually called every single customer on surrounding days to see if any might swap days with me.

While they couldn't, I really appreciate her going above and beyond to try to help me with such a silly request. Now the reason I gave 4 of 5 stars is that they missed the pick up day with no contact. They just didn't show up. They did show up first thing the next morning to pick them up, but again I wasn't contacted so I didn't know what was going on. Overall fantastic experience and I'll certainly use them again.

I'm so so happy I discovered this company! I've used pack rat and PODS in the past. While these were both a great experience, my recent experience with SMARTBOX was FANTASTIC! From the moment Gwen answered the phone she was so so nice, friendly and sincerely concerned that I get exactly what I needed. My box was delivered while I was away from home and it was placed in the exact location where I requested!

I looked in my cameras afterwards and saw the professional way it was delivered and the way my property was respected. The driver took care not to damage my driveway and he was done in no time at all! The monthly rental price is AWESOME TOO! I'm a customer for life and will recommend to all my family and friends now!

Smart box delivered my pods, picked up and dropped off my pods on schedule. The over all process was good and the boxes are fine. The biggest problem is that they charged me 4 times racking up $12,000 on my credit card for $3,000 move. My credit card was obviously maxed out during a stressful cross country move. It took a month to completely resolve the issue with company.

The help number was not very helpful and I had to send the same information and bank statements to multiple people and follow up constantly. Be aware to all potential users and check your bank statement daily!

Service was great! Delivery and pick up were awesome and scheduled perfectly. The containers weathered the rain storms and my property was just as I left them. Driver was cool as heck and the manager was very cool. Wish my bosses were like her. Thanks for helping with a stress free move SmartBox!

I have been with smartbox for a number of years and with no hesitation I will say they are great! Really good rates but most important is the staff. Chantel is by far the easiest person I have ever done any business transactions with. And Chris in the warehouse remembers us no matter how long it's been since we accessed our box. It's the small things that matter to me and they understand that. Nothing but the highest praise for them.

I ordered the smartbox because I was having construction done on the first floor and I needed to move the furniture before the workers began. I thought the price was great and they told me it would be delivered on a monday which would work out well. My husband and I took off work so that when the box arrived we could immediately get to work. The smart box never came!

I called three times and each time they told me they would call the office and the driver and they would call me back. I never got a call back. I was not told at the time of ordering that delivery could be anytime until 6pm. But that doesn't matter I still have not received the container even as I am typing this. The third time the rep asked me to hold on while she called the office knowing that the office had closed two hours prior to my call.

This has cost me and my husband money because we not only did we miss a day of work, but we have to delay the construction worker because the container never came. that will also cost us money. They never called to even say that they were not coming, I have already paid for this and each time I called the rep lied, but I think the worst was the woman putting me on hold to call the office and the driver and it had been closed for two hours. I WILL NEVER ORDER OR REFER THIS SERVICE TO ANYONE!

Great customer service. SmartBox employees are very helpful and knowledgeable. Prices are significantly lower than similar companies. Container was delivered to my condo building with no issues. They do not deliver to some areas so ask before you rent.

In the beginning, when I first contacted the Laurel, Maryland office to decide which was the least expensive way for a short move, this seemed to be the best choice. I was moving from Annapolis to Baltimore, to a neighbourhood I know well. I was not informed by the managers of the Laurel site of several things and they are as follows: You must arrange many days in advance for pick up of the pods, once they are ready for the move.

You have to get parking permits for a residential street in Baltimore, and for a storage facility. There is supposedly a contract with the city of Baltimore for a reduced price for the permit, as Smart Box has a contract with the city for this purpose. The employees at the permit office in Baltimore do not know there is a contract so I had to pay the regular rate and Smart Box did not care that I was not able to take advantage of the discount, so what is the point of this arrangement?

It cost me $260 extra for permits for 4 parking spaces while I did not need that many. The delivery man was more on top of the move than the office personnel. You don't know to ask about all of this in advance if the Smart Box managers do not tell you. You have to ask ALOT more questions than you would imagine.

I needed some auxiliary storage while some repairs were done on my house. SmartBox was the least expensive (delivery + rental charges) of the options in my area. Since quality is also an important factor, based on good reviews, I chose them to leave a storage box on my driveway. The box was delivered (and picked up) when promised and did not leak during a couple of heavy downpours. Bottom line: fitted my needs for a reasonable price.

Best price for storage box long distance moves, only problem I had was the lack of communication with the local service for picking up the filled boxes. They tell you the driver will call when they are on the way but that never happen and had issues with the scheduled pickup. Other than that the service was great when speaking with customer service reps.

I honestly thought this place was SCAMMING me until my box finally did arrive. I can't even begin to describe how stressful my experience with this company was. For starters, my box was delayed twice, once due to weather (okay fine) and the second time because a driver quit during the process (WHAT?!) so my things were just on an abandoned truck for a day until they sent someone to get them? THEN when it finally did arrive they had no one to deliver it to me for ANOTHER WEEK.

This being a cross country move & me needing my things, I arranged to pick my things up at the storage facility. YOU WOULD THINK my box being late + no one being able to deliver it for yet another seven days, they would issue some compensation. $35 is what they tried to give me for my inconveniences. NEVER use this company. EVER.

The boxes are flimsy plywood and patched up. They dropped one of boxes at the warehouse and didn't tell us. An agent told us 2 month later when we started noticing items broken and missing. We filed a claim and was ignored for months. They finally sent half of the amount we claimed with no explanation. Now we are being ignored again. Please heed my warning and do not do businesses with this company.

The one in Upper Marlboro, MD or wherever they located are the worst. You can never get through to the line if you are an existing customer and they never call you back. I called 4 times before and after waiting on hold at least 40 mins each time I requested a callback. They never call you back and your number just go in the queue. True they are cheaper than PODS but at this rate, it's not worth the hassle.

You have to cancel your card for them to call you back to tell you your payment didn't go through. I would not recommend this company for anything unless you are just that strapped for cash and dont have the extra money to use another company.

Terrible company. Misrepresented what kind of space was offered to me with the box and charged a ridiculously high deposit before ever sending me a contract. Once I received the contract and realized I was not getting what I was promised they refused to refund my deposit, despite having never signed any contract. Shady business and practices and extremely over priced. Just get a moving truck, don't waste your time with these con artists.

Unacceptable. This company is willing to work with you up until giving them your credit card information. First, there is NO communication between the long distance department and the local Smartbox facility. NONE. If FedEx can provide their customers with a tracking number, the Smartbox company should take some notes and follow their lead. In the initial stages of coordinating the delivery (before your credit card is happily swiped), you will be asked for a delivery date to the RESIDENCE. Don't be fooled as this is a "timeframe" of when the container will be delivered to the local Smartbox facility.

Understanding this from the very beginning, I repeatedly confirmed a date as to when my container would be delivered to the local facility and also the new residence. So if you coordinated time off from work or are requesting people to help you unload your container, make sure you tell them the delivery date promised, the following promised delivery date, or even better the following week promised delivery date! BE AS FLEXIBLE as you can because you are now at SMARTBOX's mercy.

As the manager, Shantelle of the Upper Marlboro, MD location stated "This isn't a pizza delivery!" Unfortunately, if this were an actual pizza delivery, you'd at LEAST get a free pizza! I barely received an apology let alone a free pizza. As for the manager at the local facility (Shantelle), please note, your customers don't appreciate the snide remarks such as the pizza delivery comment.

I was promised a date, when it was rescheduled by either the long distance department or the local location, I should've been notified of the new delivery date. My main point is, Smartbox failed to communicate this major detail of the set delivery date despite doing my due diligence of making several phone calls between the long distance department and local Smartbox facility in between the coordination process and en route for the long distance delivery up until the day before delivery to the residence.

Between the two departments, they can put you on hold and talk amongst themselves, but neither one took the responsibility of failing to notify me, the customer that the delivery date had been pushed back. Thankfully, I was able to give my family a heads up that the "promised" delivery date is no longer valid and not waste anyone's time or money, other than my own since I paid for it!

Potential Smartbox customers thinking about a long distance delivery.don't spend it here unless you don't mind the lack of communication, unnecessary snide remarks from management and of course wasting people's precious time.

2018 EDIT: Nick doesn't work there anymore and they've been bought out by Western Express. I can't believe the email I just got from the manager Nick. I asked for a quote using their online form last night at like 11pm, and just that quick he's emailed me this long, detailed quote for exactly the information I needed / requested.

I always expect a hassle when I use those online form things (I even put a b*tchy DO NOT CALL ME at the end of my quote request. lol oops sorry!) Now, please note I haven't actually used their services yet, but you bet your bottom dollar I will be using them when I do move. This review is for their quoting process.

Very poor customer service at the Laurel Smartbox branch, as well as surprise fees. (They added a 'pick up' fee to my locker delivery even though I'm already paying for the delivery and there's no other way to return the locker!) They also asked me to get forms signed that agreed to a damage liability wavier and to paying some other fee that isn't actually specified. I'm also not sure if they have liability insurance, as I haven't received a reply to my email (which asked this) in three business days! Update: I finally received my locker, but it's now been 8 months and I never received the promised follow-up regarding the surprise fees or extra month I was charged because of their poor service (let alone a confirmation that they had insurance to cover any damages they may have done during delivery).

Excellent service from the first phone call to the last. Price was reasonable and the cheapest option I could find. But even if it was a little more, the service alone was worth several hundred dollars. I felt safe and secure with my belongings as they traveled cross country.

I used smartbox to move a bunch of furniture and other stuff from my Mom's house in Boulder, Co to my apartment in upper NW DC. I did lots of research and it was the best value. The customer service on the front end was terrific. On the delivery end it was a little tough as they couldn't tell me when my stuff was going to be delivered - just the day. Makes it hard to figure out when to take off work. That said, the job was done and I would use them again.
