Wrap items in plenty of paper. The paper will help to protect breakable items, but also to fill out the extra space in the box. Filling extra space with paper will prevent the boxes from crushing. Pack a "Open First" box. This can be the last item loaded, and the first one delivered. Include essentials like paper towels, toilet paper, shower rod & curtain, cleaning supplies.

Clearly busy life since I am just writing this from our move in November of 2020. My husband and I moved form Illinois to Florida. Mike was out mover and driver and was amazing and excellent communication. Lindsey was our Move Coordinator and was excellent as well! Main things to know for people choosing is make sure you ask all the questions, get your own boxes, determine what you want them to pack vs what you will pack.

We chose to pack everything except the heavy items. We for our own boxes/tape but chose to have boxes from them for tv, bedroom etc. When it came to pricing it might seem a little higher but what you see on the quote of what you pay. They don't surprise you with extras after the fact. I noticed with other companies ( I talked to almost 30) their quotes were lower by $1,000 at least and didn't have all the details noted as discussed hint why it was lower.

My husband moved multiple times out of state and got scammed couple of times and said this was surprisingly a no stress move compared to the other ones. This was the right company for us and based on our needs so I would recommend but would still do your part of asking about everything so there are no surprises. Good luck

2 weeks ago I moved from Illinois to Nevada. I did a LOT of due diligence and finally settled on Mayflower and Olsen Brothers, as they had a reasonable quote and, more importantly, a reasonable timeline for getting me my belongings (so many firms had 31 day windows. what am I supposed to do without my bed for 31 days?). TLDR: The move went smoothly with a small delay due to weather / COVID, and nothing was damaged, scratched, or dented.

Not a single broken glass. Great communication throughout the entire process by Lindsey, the move coordinator, and wonderful movers both in Illinois and Nevada. Here's a detailed description of the process: - Moving quote / estimate: I scheduled a videocall for someone to take a look at all of my belongings and give me a moving quote. The person on the video call gave me a lot of great tips (like, don't take cleaning supplies / liquids with you, as they might puncture or burst and ruin your couch. and I'm glad I did not as it was approx. 3 degrees the week I moved!).

I received a quote and accepted, and gained access to Mayflower's website and a moving coordinator, Lindsey (who was fantastic)! - Before the move: Lindsey kept in touch and answered all of my questions very quickly and made the entire experience a lot less stressful! - Moving day: my movers in Illinois put a code on every piece of furniture / box, to make sure nothing got lost.

They were polite, quick, and knew their stuff! - The move: Here there was a delay due to COVID and snowstorms, but it was only 5 days, and Mayflower will give us a $100/day refund for those days. In truth, even with the delay - they were still the fastest moving service in the price range. - Move in day in Nevada: again, we got great movers who got our furniture inside our home and assembled everything very quickly and efficiently.

Not a single item was damaged / scratched or broken in any way. Overall: Let's forgive them the slight delay in delivery in these crazy times. I really recommend this company for your cross-country move!

Unfortunately, we did not have a great experience with Olsen Brothers. We received the wrong bill on three separate occasions. If we were not watching closely, we would have been overcharged for our storage twice. Then we were sent a bill for storage after all of our items were delivered. On our moving day, the movers did not clear a kitchen cabinet.

This caused my husband to drive an hour to our retrieve the leftover items. The buyers of our home threatened that they would not close because these items remained. Lastly, we felt there were deceptive billing practices. We asked on numerous occasions if we owed additional fees to have our furniture and boxes brought from storage to our new home. Our representative told us no every single time. She did not bother to mention that those fees were forthcoming. I wish we had used another service.

Deceptive billing practices. When I asked 3 times if I owed any additional money and was told no every time and then get charged with an additional fee. Very disappointing and can't recommend in good conscience. They need to be more upfront with customers on billing. Movers were fairly good but for forgetting to to pack several cabinets and forcing me to drive 1 hour back to the property to retrieve items they forgot to move and ultimately delay real estate closing

Mover asked me to park in a different space so he could pull his truck behind me. I said we ask movers to park right across from entrance. This would not block any spaces and be close to entrance. He said no, too dangerous for his movers. We live on a cul de sac. Not dangerous. Said if I didn't move he would block me in. I said I would call the police, he said go ahead.

I am a senior citizen, and I was parked in a handicap space I did direct direct him to park in the appropriate spot, he called me a old person, asked if I'd I had anything better to do, and he and his crew just kept laughing at me. I called their office and was promised they would talk to the driver. I was outside when I think the call came. Driver seemed to be having very good laugh with the person he was talking too Any apology, no.

I would definitely not recommend this company if you are a senior or handicapped. You can assume the will be laughing at you behind your back No AARP award for Mover of the year, that is for sure.

Olsen Brothers Mayflower just completed moving my furniture into storage this past weekend. I am rehabbing my condominium and needed to move all furniture out of the condominium into storage. Cliff was the lead on my job and he called me first thing in the morning telling me what time he was going to be there and that he would take good care of my move.

I cannot tell you the relief I felt with that phone call. I was quite nervous about the move, and he put me at ease. When the crew got there Cliff introduced everyone to me, and again stressed that I would be well taken care of which gave me an additional level of comfort. Then they got to work. They did an excellent job of padding and/or shrink wrapping my furniture.

I felt like they really cared about what they were doing and that it was important to them to do a good job. The three young men on the job were friendly and courteous. I was impressed with the level of customer service from the entire crew. They finished the entire job in pretty much exactly the time that was estimated (I think it was 15 minutes less).

I would like to also thank Steve, the person who came out to do my estimate. He not only did the estimate, but also advised me on what I needed to do for the move to go well. As I indicated I put my furniture in storage, and Steve actually stopped by the storage facility I chose to make sure the space I rented was of adequate size. I was not expecting him to take that extra step for me. Lindsey in the office was also very helpful, returned my calls quickly and answered all my questions to my satisfaction. She actually called me once from home. Overall I made the right decision picking Olsen Brothers and feel 100% satisfied with the entire move.

Olsen Brothers recently moved us out of our home for the last 18 years to a much smaller home. The crew leader and crew were unbelievably courteous, professional, and efficient. they moved our goods with great care and took time to ask questions to make sure that things were being packed properly and moved into the new home in the right places which made the moving in and unpacking process as seamless as it could be. We will be moving again in about a year and will be scheduling our that move with Olsen.

We moved a 3 bedroom household from one Chicago suburb to another about an hour apart and had a great experience with Olsen Brothers. Blair came out to give a price quote and he was professional and friendly and very helpful. Our moving team was friendly and did a great job. They arrived on time the day of the move to pack and up and protected my floors and were efficient and arrived on time the next day to deliver our items.

Nothing was damaged and they protected our floors and carpets as well. I also liked that everything was included with Mayflower (Olsen Brothers). There were no additional charges for protecting floors, or using tape or padding. They also provided a few garment boxes if needed and I was able to go pick up used or new boxed from their warehouse (up to 50) for free as well. So helpful! I recommended them to a friend recently who is using them next week, and I would use them again myself. Great job all around.

Were blocking the alley between Burling and Halsted just south of Wrightwood. They could have at least moved back five feet to let cars go through the alley. Also when asked why they were blocking the alley they lied and said the alderman told them to park there and they paid $50 to park there. Called the alderman and they do not charge for the service and you have to get movers no parking signs so you can park on the street without blocking traffic.

Very unprofessional group of movers. If you see them blocking streets call the alderman and/or the police to have them move. Drivers and movers just laughed and lied to my face. They should see about firing some of these clowns. Other reviews show these guys are just jerks who will laugh at people for blocking them in.

I used Olsen Brothers for a move from the Northwest suburbs to the city. The movers got there around 8am-11am. That's included packing up one location, another stop and a drive into the city! I could not be more pleased with my experience. The movers were kind, efficient and quick. I had a tight move in time with my building reserving the elevator and they were finished two hours early. The estimate provided a month before was dead on. I could continue raving. Thank you Olsen Brothers.

This was one of the best moves I have ever had. Joe and Boogie were fantastic. They worked very hard and the price was fair. I will recommend Olsen Brothers movers, and if you have the choice ask for Joe and Boogie.

Caution, do not use these people. They moved my brother's goods from Huntley Illinois to Oregon and broke the leg off a beautiful antique desk. If your furniture is precious to you avoid these people like the plague

We contracted with Olsen to move us from Gurnee to Mundelein. During the move one of the movers broke the wood on an antique bedroom mirror. Olsen would not repair it but sent us a check for $33. Then after looking for some pictures and art for two weeks they discovered them and delivered them to us

I cannot recommend them higher. I've moved more than a dozen, across US, Canada and South Africa. Getting that done always means getting at least three quotes. This move was 5 quotes. They were not the absolute lowest (they were second lowest) but Blair was trustworthy in his experience. Joe was the mover in charge of his small team in the day. At the end of the day he should have been exhausted but never showed it! Well done guys. Well done!

This excellent moving company was hired by my mother this past Friday. She sold her home of 44 years and bought a condo. It was an emotional time and a bittersweet day, for sure. But these guys were incredible. They were courtious, professional, and funny! They worked really hard and completed the move in about 6 hours, coming in under the estimated cost and didn't break or scratch a single item.

They really made a stressful moving day pleasant and painless for us. I would use them myself in the future and would recommend them to anyone, without hesitation. Great job, guys!

Our move went smoothly and as quoted and expected. They showed up with a gigantic Mayflower truck. The guys were good and they only took 30 minutes of break over the course of 6 hours. They got the job done and would use them again.

**- SEE addendum at bottom. Mayflower rectified the situation Recently had the worst experience with Mayflower Olson Moving Company. Representative came to our house. Said he had 25 or so years of experience in the business. Did suggest that we have 4 packing crates but we were going to try to consolidate and use 3. We were under the impressing that the 4th crate would be on the truck just in case we needed it.

Of course all of our belonging did not fit in 3. We tried reaching our representative but couldn't. The owner of the company, Mr Olson contacted us. He was totally rude and argumentative. Our only option was for them to put some of our stuff on the truck, and now guess if it would fit in the crate back at the warehouse. They were suppose to call us the same day to let us know if everything fit and if there was extra space so we could bring the remainder of our stuff to them.

Two days later, we have not heard from anyone. Meanwhile, we are moving across state and had to get rid of a lot of our memorable possessions. We are so disappointed in this Company and the way that the owner and representative handled the s ****************************************** 2nd part of the story. Mayflower rectified the problem we had. We are now very happy that they conducted business in a professional manner!

I never care if there is a mistake or misunderstanding, as long as the two parties can agree on straightening out a situation as best as can be. Thank you Mayflower for deciding to address our situation!

Moving from Chicago to Chattanooga TN was an experience I will never forget. Moving a whole household and a cat was very hard. I chose Mayflower after researching all other moving companies because of their reputation. Mayflower was great. Brian was very professional and pleasant and was very knowledgeable with the process. They sent 3 helpers from Olsen Brothers to help get my house set up for the next day move.

Morning came and the helpers arrived early and packed up the whole house by the end of the afternoon. On my unloading day, they arrived early and began the long laborious task of unloading the Mayflower truck. David and Isaac went to task and continued all day with not even one complaint. They continued through lunch and were finished before early evening.

I have never seen anyone work so hard as these two men and enjoy their job! I will never move again, but I would certainly recommend this team. Thank you all for a job well done!

Mayflower gave us a pleasurable move. Care was given to our furniture from start to finish. Driver, Henry, and his crew were friendly and knowledgeable.

Unprofessional, impolite, rude. Was price matching, decided to go with another company given the so-so reviews on yelp, and the the guy on the phone became very rude.

Best moving experience ever under the guidance of Art Nelson. and trust me, I have been through many moves. He made sure our 2 site pickup strategy worked as scheduled. And our delivery was even ahead of schedule, an option which was also our choice.

Blair Johnson was the representative that came to my home and gave me a quote for a cross country move through mayflower movers from Chicago to Fort Collins. I am very pleased with my choice to use their services. Olsen brothers came with a 5 man crew (one head man and four movers). The head mover was really nice, friendly, happy, and a hard worker (I think his name was Brian), the four movers worked quickly and didn't break a thing.

Some things did break in transit but nothing that wasn't replaceable. I was also missing a bike rack when the load arrived. I started to deal with the issue with the mayflower driver and I wasn't getting anywhere. I called Blair Johnson and it was dealt with very quickly and returned to me. I would highly recommend them, professional and reliable.

Absolutely terrible to deal with in every way. These movers damage your property and will not stand behind their damage claims. Combative and extremely poor customer service. Keep shopping. There are many reputable movers out there!

If I could go less than one star I would! Stay AWAY, FAR FAR AWAY! Mayflower is owned by the same company as United Van Lines so United set up for the Mayflower guy to come and give me a quote. He seemed reputable. Richard Burin has been nothing but trouble and I don't believe I have been dealt with honestly. First, a get a quote that was much higher than that of my boyfriend, same company but he had a LOT more stuff to move than I did, but it is short notice so I go with them.

Since the quote was so high, I shed myself of nearly all my furniture and I get another quote more than a $1000 less. That is good. I am promised 50 free boxes and some wardrobe boxes. I say that I don't think I will need all the boxes. Movers show up, don't have any boxes. what moving company shows up without moving supplies? Olsen does.

And the head guy was not pleased that I expected that they would have some moving supplies (we only needed a few boxes and you would have thought I was asking them to chop down a tree and make the box from scratch!). They said they were going to shuttle my items to a warehouse and that the shuttle from my house to the warehouse was NOT part of the quote from Richard, though I was quite clear in asking if the quote was all inclusive. Cost: $850+ $160 in tip (I didn't want to stiff the working guys because their bosses are not forthcoming!). So, after shedding most of the furniture, I get a quote that was actually higher than the original one! but not to worry, they will honor the original quote! WTF?! Scoundrels. Richard claims I do not accept the bid (though I have a print out as proof that I sent the money, lest he hold my possessions hostage), calls me before 8 am and thinks that is customer service (it is not. that is creepy and disturbing!), and to top it all off, he tells the shuttle guy that I accept a much higher insurance rate that I agreed to. adding to my costs!

I think I am going to need the added insurance, I am sure he is going to beat the hell out of my possessions and I will not be surprised if items are destroyed and/or missing and not reimbursed. mark my words. My furniture was picked up December 30th in Chicago. it will sit, by Richard's admission, until January 4th in his warehouse and I will get my stuff in California. get this, between January 10-22. wow. Avoid this company at all costs!

Our family has used Olsen Brother on three (3) occasions over the past 8 years and each experience was extremely good. Two moves were local (Chicago area) and the last was cross country. Each move was arranged by Steve DiBasillio, whose estimate was right on target both weight and dollars. Olsen's packers were on-time, efficient and took great care in boxing up our belongings.

For two of the moves we had to place our goods in storage for a period of time. In both cases the storage charges were extremely reasonable and very competitive. The movers who loaded and unloaded our goods were professional, courteous and careful. The only damage we sustained in these moves were 2 glass shelves for our china cabinet were chipped on the edges. Overall, we are very pleased with the quality and service we received from Olsen Brothers.

Horrible experience with this company and with Steven DiBasilio in particular. Low estimate followed by high bill in the end with a "note our very tiny fine print on estimates". Things were broken, price ended up outrageous and employees were extremely rude.

Great movers! I had a 3 story, 2 bedroom condo downtown with a storage unit down the street and it was done in 4 hours. Great guys, very professional. They handled all my items with great care and packed my art pieces for me. Brian, Alex and Scotty did a fabulous job. Highly recommended!
